Torch Welcomed by 4,000 in Yorkton

The 2010 Vancouver Olympics Torch Run brought the magic and excitement of the Olympic Spirit to the Yorkton area. The Torch was welcomed with a celebration of dance, song and fun. The crisp weather brought out the warm and glowing hearts of the Yorkton area people.
Many wonderful events capped off a day of pride and enjoyment:
- An enthusiastic crowd welcomed the Torch to Yorkton as torchbearer Don Hull started the run through the community. Don Hull is a two-time torch bearer, having also carried the 1988 Calgary Olympic torch.
- Over 4,000 people welcomed the Torch.
- The Torch spirit of peace, brotherhood and friendship was showcased with the celebration of cultures, heritage and dance. Ukrainian and Aboriginal dancers entertained and educated.
- Focus on the youth of the community, and the future of our country, with two choirs, each with 50 voices.
- · The loud and proud voices of the kindergarten and grade one students from Dr Brass Community School as they sang.
- The inspirational contributions of Yorkton former Olympians, Lori Ann Mundt and Jason Parker.
- The corridor welcoming the Flame, formed by the Yorkton Army, Air and Sea Cadets.
- The pride on the face of Barry Sharpe, final torch bearer and cauldron lighter, as he ran the flame down the corridor, cheered on by the crowd.
